How does a trial day work at K9 Heaven?

Every new dog starts with a trial day so we can meet them, learn their quirks, and make sure the pack is a good fit. You book a date, drop your dog off in the morning, and we spend the day getting to know each other through supervised play, rest, and a few treats. At pick-up we will give you an honest run-down of how the day went and whether daycare suits your dog. There is no obligation to keep coming, and it means your dog's first proper day is a relaxed one.

What vaccinations does my dog need before joining?

For the safety of the whole pack we ask that every dog is up to date on the core vaccinations your vet recommends in New Zealand, which usually covers distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus, along with kennel cough. Bring your vaccination record to the trial day and we will keep a copy on file. If your dog is a rescue and the history is unclear, have a chat with your vet and give us a call so we can sort a plan that keeps everyone healthy.

Is my dog too old, too young, or too shy for daycare?

We welcome dogs of all ages once they are past their puppy vaccination stage, and we group the day around temperament rather than size or breed. Bouncy young dogs, steady seniors and shy first-timers all have a place, because we watch the room constantly and give quieter dogs cosy spots to retreat to. The trial day is exactly how we find out what your dog enjoys, and we are always honest if a calmer boarding or a smaller play group would suit them better.

What should I pack for a day or an overnight stay?

For daycare, honestly not much: your dog, their collar with an ID tag, and any medication with clear instructions. For an overnight boarding stay, pack their usual food portioned into daily bags so their tummy stays settled, plus a familiar blanket or toy that smells like home. Please label everything. We provide the beds, the water bowls, the cuddles and the clean-up, so you can travel light.

How many dogs do you look after and who supervises them?

We deliberately keep our numbers sensible and our human-to-dog ratio high, because good daycare is about attention, not crowds. Our team stays in the play areas the whole time, reading body language, breaking up the over-excited moments before they start, and rotating dogs between active play and quiet rest so nobody burns out. If you ever want to know exactly who is looking after your dog on a given day, just ask.

Do you offer boarding and grooming as well as daycare?

We do. Daycare is the heart of what we do, but plenty of our families also board with us when they travel and add a grooming session so their dog comes home clean as well as tired and happy. Because the same team knows your dog from daycare, boarding is far less stressful than a strange kennel, and grooming happens with people your dog already trusts. Mention what you need when you book and we will build the right mix.

My dog is not great with other dogs. Can they still come?

Tell us honestly at booking and we will take it from there. Some dogs simply need a smaller, calmer play group or one-to-one time, and some are happier with boarding and enrichment rather than a busy social day. We would rather set your dog up to succeed than push them into a situation that overwhelms them, so the trial day and a good chat with you are how we decide together what a great day actually looks like for your dog.

What are your hours and how do I book?

We are open on weekdays for drop-off in the morning and pick-up in the late afternoon, with boarding available for overnight and longer stays. The easiest way to start is to book a trial day through our contact page or give us a call, and we will find a date that works. Spaces do fill up, especially over school holidays and the Christmas break, so it pays to get in touch early if you know your dates.
